The first time I saw this commercial was this morning. I found it totally unexpected, a crazy combination. Who figured that Snoop has influence over the Overstock.com demographic, whom at a glance i figure to be about 80% female, age 34 -55. But It shows me the power of celebrity. If you would have asked me 5 years ago if Snoop would be doing a commercial for Overstock.com? I would have said; “hee-zells no my dude.” I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Snoop in beyond his music, beyond his past. He is an American Icon, rooted in urban culture, But recognized by the world. Snoop is the optimal “influencer” at this point. I don’t know who thought of this pairing or what agency created this campaign. I know my man Ted Chung is the ultimate hustler and his company the Cashmere Agency handles Snoops management and lifestyle marketing efforts. Snoop’s influence is growing dramatically. It should be interesting to see the kind of adverting campaigns he is involved in in the new few years.
